New Webmaster and Rating Officer

Webmaster and Rating Officer Positions

The ICU’s Webmaster and Rating Officer will be stepping down shortly. We are seeking expressions of interest from people who are willing to serve in a voluntary capacity in these two positions. These will be non-executive roles so it is open to non-members of the ICU to come forward if they are interested and consider that they have the skills necessary to do the job. Some details of what this entails are set out below.

Webmaster

The principal job of the webmaster is to manage the ICU's Linux web server and maintain the programming code and databases used for the two existing websites. Intending applicants should know how to manage services such as databases, firewalls, web and FTP servers. Previous experience of writing, testing and deploying Rails applications and a good understanding of Linux (preferably Centos) would be beneficial. Knowledge of the following technologies, or the capacity to quickly acquire same, is desirable: Apache, Bundler, Capistrano, Capybara, Git, HAML, JQuery, JQuery-UI, Perl, Phusion Passenger, Redis, RSpec, Ruby, SQL and Twitter Bootstrap.

The ICU will consider, if necessary, any reasonable request for the cost of upgrading the successful applicant’s computer to facilitate the work involved. The new webmaster will also be required to review the operation of the current websites on an ongoing basis and make suggestions on the potential use of more generic technologies to improve their operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain considerable experience of website management and design while also contributing to the efficient delivery of the ICU’s services to members.

Rating Officer

The principal tasks of the Rating Officer are described here. Applicants who are numerate with a mathematical or computing background might find this role of particular interest. While there are no specific technical skills required, that would preclude applicants from fulfilling the role effectively, a basic working knowledge of statistics would be advantageous.

How to Apply

Please email [email protected] stating which position you are applying for and outlining how you consider that you meet the requirements of the role. Intending applicants can apply for both roles if they wish.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Monday 10th November 2014. All applications received will be considered by the ICU Executive Committee who will decide who to select for the roles.
