Rating Officer's Report, May 2011
A further 44 tournaments were rated in May to bring the total for the season so far to 65. The list contains 840 members, 721 with full ratings and 119 with provisional. It's likely that two further tournaments will be added to the list before the end of May: the Galway Winter League (which is waiting confirmation of a player's identity) and the Drogheda Club Championship Finals which are not due until the 24th.
Gonzaga, the top two Leinster Leagues, the National Club Championships and the Leinster Championships have all been FIDE rated. The Munster League Division 1 is due to be FIDE rated in July and the Irish Championships and Elm Mount's Club Championship in September.
Status Report on New Rating System
A beta version of the new ratings website (which I've mentioned before in these reports) will go online later this year. Initially, it will just be for tournament controllers and the rating officer to load and edit data and for players to view their results in tournament tables. The part of the system that actually performs rating calculations will be added later, sometime in early 2012, at which point players will get to see a full breakdown of their rating calculations.
The official ratings in 2011-12 will still be calculated by the old system and published on this website as usual. The plan is to review progress at the beginning of the 2012-13 season and decide if the new system is ready to take over.
