Join the ICU

To join the Irish Chess Union, or renew your membership, you can either subscribe online (the recommended method) or fill out this form and post it, together with your subscription fee, to the membership secretary.

Currently, the main benefits of ICU membership are the right to participate in ICU affiliated tournaments, eligibility for selection for international individual and team competitions, the calculation and publication of members' Elo ratings and access to the the Irish Chess Journal.

If you are a new member you will be assigned a permanent ICU number which will be used to track your rating during seasons (Sep-Aug) for which you subscribe to the ICU. In addition, you will receive a private PIN number, valid for the season in which you join, which you can use to register with this web site.

If you are a former ICU member, you need to resubscribe for any new season in which you want your rating tracked. To do so, use the ICU number you were given when you first joined (your old rating is not forgotten). When you subscribe you'll be given a new website PIN that's valid for a season (if you've already registered with the website and pay online, your PIN will be updated automatically).

Subscribing online is recommended because:

• you get immediate confirmation by email, instead of waiting for a reply by post,
• existing web site members have their PIN updated automatically,
• multiple subscriptions can be made with one payment (e.g. by parents and club secretaries),
• reduces the risk of error (machines are generally more reliable than humans).
