Three draws on the top boards in the tense last round of the 2015 Irish ch seen Phillip Short and Stephen Brady joint winners on 6.5 from the nine round event.
Phillip wins the automatic reserved place for the Irish champion on the Irish men’s team for the 2016 Olympiad with a better tiebreak. It has been 19 years since Stephen has played in an Olympiad anyway (Yerevan, Armenia 1996 being the last time) with Phillip last playing in the Dubai Olympiad 1986.
In any event, next year’s 2016 Irish championship will be the last chance for some to secure a place for the 2016 Olympiad and details of the 2016 Irish ch will be announced soon. It is looking like it will not be in Dublin next year.
