2012-06-15 Woman Knits Chess Set
who runs the Killarney Junior Chess Club, and started the Killarney KDYS Knitting Club, has knitted a chess board and pieces. The board is 32 inches square and edged with celtic embroidery. The kings (pictured left) are 8 inches high. The pieces are filled with pure sheep wool and weighted with a 20mm hex nut. The design is adapted and scaled up from a pattern by Alan Dart in the May 2011 issue of Simply Knitting Magazine. More images. It took Edwina 160 hours to complete. She commented: "Once started it became an obsession to finish it". Killarney Junior Chess Club meets in the KDYS Youth Center on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm. |
