Federation is required for new members (or existing members whose federation is unknown) to facilitate their registration with FIDE if they play in FIDE-rated events. FIDE charge a large fee to correct mistakes so please choose carefully. Non-Irish players resident in Ireland and not already registered with FIDE may choose to belong to the Irish federation if they wish, however, by itself, this does not automatically qualify players for international selection.

DOB is required for new players (or old players whose DOB is unknown) to help with identification of both ICU and FIDE players. For juniors it is important for rating K-factor and junior international selection.
