The 2nd Cavan Chess Congress, at least of the 21st century is back and it's running this weekend in the Cavan Crystal Hotel. The organising committee of Adrian Kelly, Tony McMahon and IM Mark Quinn have worked to revive this weekend event, which was a major event in the Chess calendar in the 1970s.
You can follow the draws and results of the 3 rated sections below. Note that the event is limited to players under 2000, a sort of traditionla "stars barred" event, aimed at the club players and novices.
Speaking of novices, the 4th section was for players who've never played a rated game, and they played far more games than the other sections. They also benefited from IM Mark Quinn giving lectures in between rounds and going through a select few games with the players. It was a great event and l will try to report on this seperately later.
