Galway Speed Chess Championship Saturday June 21st

7 Round Fide Rapid Tournament 11AM-4PM

11 Round Fide Blitz tournament 5PM-8PM

Venue: OLBC Youthclub, Ely place, 11 Sea Rd, Galway

Start time: 11AM (sharp) Expected finishing time: 8PM

There will be a break for refreshments after the Rapid tournament round 4

All children/minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Rapid Rate of play: 10 minutes per player per game, plus a 5 second increment per move Number of rounds: 7

Blitz Rate of play: 3 minutes per player per game, plus a 2 second increment per move Number of rounds: 11

Accelerated pairings may be used if the number of entrants warrants it.

Methods of entry Method A: (much preferred)

Register your entry with the organiser, by emailing your name – or the name(s) of the player(s) you are entering - to BrianGallaga1@gmail.com before midday on June 19th, or call 0872781919 to register by phone

Please include ICU or FIDE ID numbers if you have them. If not then include an online rating from Chess.com/Lichess

Also please specify whether you are eligible for the Junior, Senior, or Female Prizes.

Method B:

Pay the entry fee of 20€ for the Rapid tournament, and 20€ for the Blitz tournament on arrival, between 10.15-10.30 AM

The pairings for round 1 will be made at 10.50, and only paid entrants will be included.

Latecomers will be added if possible, or given a travelling bye for rounds they miss, at the arbiter’s discretion.

Note: if we reach the venue’s capacity (see below) we will stop taking further entries.

Method B Register and pay the entry fee of €20 for the Rapid, and 20€ for the Blitz on arrival on Sat June 21 between 10 and 10.30AM.

Late entries will only be accepted if there are places available, or to replace no- shows (in which case they will be entered from round 2). In accordance with standard international practice, the organizers have the right to refuse any entry without giving a reason.

Tournament Capacity

The capacity of the venue is 100 players, so we cannot accept further entries once that number has been reached. We will indicate if we have reached capacity.

If entries have closed and you have not entered and yet turn up at the venue on the day, your entry will be accepted only to replace any no-shows.

Please note that there is some space at the venue for parents and spectators, but we cannot accommodate non-playing children.

Tie breaks:

if more than 3 players share a place from 1st-3rd then, standard automatic tie-breaks will be used to get down to the top two players for that place, then there will be a playoff between those two players, playoff will be a 2 game match of 3+2 then if tied, an armegeddon game, 4 mins vs 3 mins, black having 3 minutes and draw odds, and players drawing for colours randomly.

Late withdrawals policy:

Before 8AM Monday 16th 50% refund available, after 8AM Monday 16th, no refund available

The prize fund may be increased/decreased based on entries
