The Sligo Chess Club is delighted to announce the launch of the Sligo Rapid Series, a new five-tournament circuit that will run throughout the 2026–27 season, culminating at the Sligo Chess & Culture Festival 2027.
Each event features two sections: a FIDE-rated Open tournament and an unrated Rising Stars (Under 12) tournament. While every tournament is a standalone event with its own prizes, players will also earn series points based on their performances across all five tournaments. Overall series winners will be crowned at the conclusion of the final event during the Sligo Chess & Culture Festival.
Each tournament will award trophies to the leading players in both the Open and Rising Stars (Under 12) sections. The overall series will also award trophies to the top three players in the Rising Stars (Under 12) standings, while the Open series winners will receive cash prizes of €300 for 1st place, €150 for 2nd place, and €75 for 3rd place.
