The City of Dublin Chess Tournament was held in An Oige, a youth hostel on the Northside of Dublin, which is also home to the Phibsborough Chess Club, over the weekend of 31st August – 2nd September 2007. There were 95 participants in four different playing sections, all of which were keenly contested. This was up by a third on last year’s 70 participants. There was a prize fund of 5,000€.

The Masters Section (rating of 2000 plus) was contested by a very strong line up with 8 of the 20 competitors rated in excess of 2100, including, one GM, one IM and 1 FM. Grandmaster Alex Baburin emerged triumphant on tie break from Colm Daly. Both players finished unbeaten with scores of 5/6 and got a prize of 800 euro each for their weekends work. Last years City of Dublin Winner, Karl McPhillips finished in third place on 4.5/6 with Eamonn Keogh and Gerry O'Connell obtaining grading prizes.

The Majors Section (rating of 1600 – 1999) was contested by 25 players and was won outright by Lukasz Kwiatek with a score of 5/6. There was three way tie for 2nd – 4th place. On tie break, Ray O'Rourke finished as runner-up with Nicholas Pilkiewicz (3rd)and Dara Murphy (4th), all with scores of 4½/6. Grading prizes were won Feargal O'Beirne and Stanislav Jurkiewicz.

The Challengers Section (rating 1200 – 1599) was also keenly contested by 22 competitors with Melvyn King of Naomh Barrog Chess Club winning outright on a score of 5½/6, the weekends highest score. Second and third places went to Chris Miller and Ciaran Ruane respectively who both finished on scores of 4½/6.Grading prizes were won by Andrew Peters and Balazs Bedi.

The Junior Section (Rating under 1200 or unrated) was contested by 28 players. Three players finished on scores of 5/6 with Senan Cullen winning on tie break from Philip Maguire (2nd) and John Cormican (aged 10) in third place. Also among the prizes were Wayne Murphy and Cathal Murphy (no relations!) who finished in 4th and 5th places respectively. Grading prizes were won by Daniel Purdy and J. Hennessy.

Tony Gregory T.D. presented the prizes at the event. Cross tables for each section of the tournament can also be viewed on the website along with some photos from the event.
