Details of Chess, Chinese Chess and Go co-event on Friday, March 4th

John McMorrow and Rory Wales

As well as the blitz chess event being run in the Gresham hotel on Friday, there will also be a high profile Chinese Chess Rapidplay event happening simultaneously. Details below:

We will be having a Rapid Chinese Chess tournament on Friday evening with the following format: 7 rounds 5 minutes + 3 seconds

We would like to start at 7pm and finish at around 11pm.

For anyone interested in learning more about Chinese Chess, I think this YouTube video is a good introduction to Chinese Chess as it explains it using an Internationalised set i.e. using Western Chess pieces:

I think any chess player would be able to make a good effort playing a Chinese Chess game after watching this 5 minute video. Note we will be using traditional Xiangqi Chinese Chess sets this weekend though, not Internationalised ones.

Here are profiles of some of the top Chinese Chess players coming this weekend:

Nicolas Dang France European Grandmaster, 7 time European Grandmaster including most recent one in 2014

Fazuo Chen UK European Grandmaster, former UK Champion, 9th place in last World Xiangqi tournament in 2015

Chunlong Huang UK European Grandmaster, former UK Champion, 1st place 2015 Irish Confucius Cup, 7th place in the first World Mind Game in 2011

Chi Kong Lai UK European Grandmaster, Chairman of British Xiangqi Association

Chen Li UK European Woman Grandmaster, 2nd place World Xiangqi tournament

There will also be a former World Champion, Ms Yingqin You, visiting from Beijing for the event. All the information about the Irish Confucius Cup weekend is available on our website here:
