The ICU advises that the following events will be subject selection for the "invited delegate" or equivalent places.
Events subject to selection
Selections are expected within May 2016 subject to published junior eligibility criteria and ranked according to Junior Selection 2016 - High Tide Ratings. Note also event requirements including the requirement to be FIDE federated to IRL (Ireland) apply. The current hightide rankings can be found here.

- World Junior and Girls U20 Championship 2016 Aug 7-22, Bhuvaneswar, Orissa, India
- European Youth Championship 2016 Aug 17-28, Prague, Czech Republic
- World Youth U14, U16, U18 Championships 2016 Sep 20- Oct 4, Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia
- World Cadets U8, U10, U12 Championships 2016 Oct 18-30, Batumi, Georgia
In the first instance, only one place per player will be offered accross all these events

Note: Where a player qualifies for selection for more than one of the four cups, the ICU reserves the right to determine the specific team for that player.
- World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad 2016 July 21-30, Poprad-Tatry, Slovakia
Note: The U16 Olympiad remains a developing event as evidenced by the wide ranging playing standards of participants. The ICU are prioritising the top u16 players who have NOT previously represented Ireland on any 1st team (eg in the Glorney Gilbert and U16 Olympiad)

- European School Chess Championships 2016
- European Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships 2016
- 6th Gibraltar Junior International Chess Festival
- European Youth Team Championship 2016
