The ICU Chess Day

John McMorrow

The ICU and Chess Promotions will be running an event to coincide with the Global Chess Festival run by GM Judit Polgar. The first Irish edition of this event will feature a junior event from 12-4pm, an open blitz from 4.30pm and a simulaneous display from FM Conor O'Donnell, also commencing at 4.30pm.

The idea is to grow this event year on year and involve those who wouldn't typically find themselves at an Irish Chess event. FM Conor O'Donnell's simul will be against several high profile individuals with connections to Irish Chess.

The blitz will be run over 9 FIDE rated rounds with a generous selections of prizes. You can enter that event here. There is a special reduction for the first 20 entrants. All proceeds from this event and the simultaneous display will go to the ISPCC.

The junior event will run from 12pm until 4pm on the same day and details for that event are here.

The event is the brainchild of ICU Vice-Chairperson, GM Alexander Baburin, while the event will be run by ICU Tournament Officer, Ivan Baburin.
