This year's Mick Germaine Cup competition for teams of junior players took place on Sunday 10th December 2017 in the Ierne Sports and Social Club, home of the Elm Mount Chess Club.
It was contested by 25 teams from both schools and clubs with the Rathmines kings emerging victorious winning all of their 6 matches. The runners up were first time competitors, Blackrock College, followed by the Rathmines Rooks and Elm Mount in 3rd and 4th place respectively. There were 8 teams from the Blanchardstown Chess Club, and teams from two Educate Together Schools (Glasnevin and Rush/Lusk). Teams also travelled from Manorhamilton, Wexford and kildare to compete in the event.
