The passing of Denis Kelleher, founding member of Portmarnock CC

Brian McGrath

I wanted to let you know that one of our founding members and life long ICU member Denis Kelleher passed away last night. The arrangements can be seen here.

Reposing on next Tuesday afternoon (April 3rd) at home from 5pm until 8pm. Removal on Wednesday morning to St. Anne's Church, Portmarnock arriving for 10 o'clock Funeral Mass followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery. Enquiries to Stafford's Portmarnock 01 8462620.

Denis has a long association with the chess community, be it as the founding member of the Portmarnock Chess club, and its predecessor Southern Cross club, and I’m sure many other chess clubs in Dublin and also in Cork stretching back several years. Denis was also heavily involved in the Community Games and managed many many Portmarnock Community Games teams, myself included.

Denis was playing and enjoying his chess, with his last league game on March 6 – another win for the season.
