ECC 2022 - round 3

Ennis took bragging rights in the ECC derby in round 3, with a storming performance in the top half of the match putting them 2.5-0.5 up. Though Gonzaga fought back on the bottom boards, helped by Carl Jackson's win over the previously unbeaten Rory Quinn, Ennis held on to condemn them to a third 3.5-2.5 defeat of the tournament.

Ennis play the local side Zell/Zillertal today, while Gonzaga's punishment is another derby, this time against St Benildus, who went down 4.5-1.5 against Dutch side En Passant. Having in round 2 faced a Kosovo side with several blue-chip technology sponsors on their shirts, this time they were playing a side with their own custom-built clubhouse in the shape of a rook - an indication of what you're up against even in the lower tiers of this tournament. Benildus rescued 1.5 from the two games which had earlier appeared the most likely to end in defeats, but still have more than double their expected score.
