The Ulster Chess Union (which left the ICU last year) has clarified its position on Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan. The UCU claims to represent chess in Northern Ireland only, and not the three other Ulster counties - Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan.
At the ICU meeting on Sunday 30th July 2006, it was decided that these three counties may enter a team in the National Club Championships from 2007. If a Chess Union is formed in these counties, it may apply for a place on the ICU Executive Committee.
