Scarry Cup Off To A Flying Start
7-11

The inaugural Scarry Cup got off to an exciting start with a very healthy turn out of teams which included the bones of the winning Armstrong Cup Gonzaga team who are much higher rated than any of the other teams.

However that did not stop a major upset in round one when promising junior Robbie Kildea achieved victory against the experienced Carl Jackson with a very nice display. Though some six hundred rating points the lower he showed Carl a thing or two about taking care in the opening as Robbie began a tactical sequence which soon brought the game into a winning endgame. Nerves then played a part and it seemed Robbie may have allowed Carl some “action Jackson” type counter chances with two dangerous passed pawns looking very intimidating, but Robbie in true “Roy of the Rovers” style of play calmly dealt with all the dangers with some swift and fine movement of his own connected passed pawns which was like conducting a symphony, such was the calculation and coordination needed to finally force resignation.

A good start for at least one junior and plenty more games yet to be played.
