World Champion (Veselin Topolov GM)

Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria wins the World Championship tournament. With the title already in hand, Veselin drew quickly with Judit Polgar in the last round.

Topalov finished undefeated with 10 points, a convincing 1½ points ahead of runner-up Viswanathan Anand who won the tie-break over Peter Svidler, both at 8½ points each.

The event was an 8-player double round-robin and took place over 17 days (28 September - 14 October) in San Luis, Argentina (more).
