This article part of the series: Rating Officer Reports 2011 - 1, 2, 3, 4

Summary

861 ratings (744 full, 117 provisional) were published in the September list on the 10th September. The number of tournaments rated for 2010-11 for this initial version of the list (see below for subsequent revisions) was 110.

Late tournament reports expected to arrive soon are:

Revisions

Revisions are necessary when tournament reports arrive late. These sort of revisions require rating recalculations and may affect the ratings of players not even playing in the late-submitted tournaments. If tournament organisers could just manage to send in their reports on time it would save a lot of hassle for the rating officer and frustration for players as they wait for the final version of their rating.

Another more benign reason for revisions is to publish the ratings of members who have just joined. This doesn't involve any recalculations or ratings changes, it just increases the number of published ratings.

  1. Sep 11, 10:00: Added Ennis Open, Ennis U1400 and David Fitzsimon's Paris result.
  2. Sep 11, 23:00: Added Elm Mount CC A.
  3. Sep 12, 20:30: Added Branagan Cup and North Munster League.
  4. Sep 13, 19:30: Added Elm Mount CC B & D.
  5. Sep 14, 20:00: Added City of Dublin Masters.
  6. Sep 15, 20:40: Added City of Dublin Challengers, Juniors and Majors, Elm Mount CC C, and Malahide CC.
  7. Sep 17, 20:50: Re-rated all tournaments in correct order (final recalculation - see below).
  8. Oct 01, 13:05: Published ratings of 7 players who had re-subscribed during September but not been members in 2010-11 (final publication).

Final Recalculation

After the last late tournament report was received all tournaments were rerated in their correct order and the rating list republished on 17th September. Unless any errors are discovered, this will be the last revision that involves any rating changes. No more tournament reports will be accepted for rating.

The tournament reordering caused some changes in ratings from revision 6 (see above). Out of 868 published ratings, 686 were unchanged, 79 changed by 1, 93 changed by between 2 and 10, 7 changed by between 11 and 20 and 3 had changes greater than 20.

The larger changes were associated with players who had received bonuses. Bonuses are not very common but when they are awarded the precise amount is very sensitive to a player's start rating in a tournament. For example, the largest change after the tournament reordering (+63 for Diana Mirza) involved bonuses in three separate tournaments.
